I think the 262 reproductions are great and of course I'm glad they put modern engines in them. Much safer. If, for example, that meant the nacelles are slightly larger (just an example - don't know that they are) well that's life.

I could be wrong but I thought I read/heard that there's an original P-38 flying without the turbos operative. Is that so? If so, the purist in me would wish they were operative. But maybe I'd think differently if I knew the reasons they were inoperative.

Seriously, now that 262crew has moderated his position to where it is reasonable, I can agree with it. In the post I quoted, he didn't seem to get the point of authenticity at all.

He is also wrong about there being "two very distinct groups, the cell structure counters and the ones that love to see both types of restorations." Actually there is a third group, one that loves only hot flyable airplanes, cares not a whit for authenticity, and thinks any static restoration is dead and worthless. And he omits to mention that the first and third groups are really just theoretical extremes where hardly anybody really resides. We are ALL right there in the middle camp with 262crew, he's just trying to assign anybody who's a bit more concerned with accuracy than he is into the extreme position.August

Excuse me sir but you are wrong about me being wrong :!: I do not hold a position of "assigning" anything or anyone, clearly my position is one of concern for all generations to witness these wonderful man made creations be it flying or not, 100% authentic or not :!: My position is one of openess and fairness and respect for ones opinions even if I do not agree. So can you define your position clearly :?:

Very well. When you see one of these mythical "cell structure counters" who don't "love to see both types of restorations" then please point him out to me. With fairness and respect, of course.

k5083,
I have absolutely NO PROBLEM seeing in not only colors but also in shades. You, it seems are one of those who can only see in darkest black and purest white and gray to you is laser thin.

262crew is the closest individual to the project and it's inner workings and politics so, if I were you, I'd stop flogging the horse and learn to be it's friend--otherwise 'NO SOUP FOR YOU!'

Now I don't know what you're talking about.

I just said everybody likes both accurate airplanes and hot flying airplanes and it is knocking down a straw man to pretend that anyone doesn't. 262crew then explained his position better and it turns out we agree, as I said, although I still think it's unfair of him to characterize what he terms "cell structure counters" as demanding "100.00000000% accuracy" in flying warbirds. You don't think that exaggerates people's positions?

You, I have no beef with, don't know why you seem upset.

Indeed, why does anyone see this as a big deal? Too much caffeine in the coffee around Seattle I guess.

Then you come up with a snappy name for over the top hyper critical people. Why do you keep taking shots at me? What have I done to you? Is it not unfair of you to "characterize" people in Seattle as coffee drinkers? Why are you stereotyping people? Is it for lack of something? The only time I have a problem with the cell structure counters is when they insist their opinions are greater and more truthful. Why cant you accept other peoples opinions as opinions, and not be so sensitive?
