[quote="EDowning"] As I have said in previous posts, I want this Spad clean.

Like you said; everyone has to have his dreams

I found that it may be easier to install the shuttle valve on the front of the oil tank before the tank goes back on the airframe. I KNOW that it's easier to safety wire the fasteners with the tank on the bench...

Looking good! Hope you get it back in the air soon.

That is absolutely hilarious. The only thing that could possibly make that Spitfire more finicky would be a LUCAS ignition.

A little bit of an update, everything is done waiting for the engine to come back. The engine is scheduled to be run on the test bed tomorrow. Should have it back mid week next week. We are at @1200 hours of labor for the firewall forward restoration so far, not counting accessory overhauls and the engine work.

BTW, this is my "economic stimulus" contribution. It's turned into $50k, I didn't get one of those $600 checks, so I did this instead.

That must be a homebuilt replica. I ain't never seen a real combat Skyraider that purty. There's one easy way to keep it that clean, just don't start the engine. And if anybody complains about the carbon footprint, just show them the picture of the space shuttle launch.

Thanks! Alot of it is "homebuilt". And the dirty little secret about the nicest warbirds on the circut is that, none of them look anything like combat aircraft. If I was really set on that, I should have left it alone.

Eric, I don't know how to break this to you, but I better get the word out before you go any farther. I just saw a big mandatory Federal recall of all green aviation primer and towbar yellow paint. Seems the recent batch was imported from China and contaminated with ricin, and well as lead. But cheer up, now that you guys have the experience it won't take nearly as long the second time around.

Bill,

I know you are joking but this reminded me of a point I wanted to make. We took a tip from Mike VadeBonCoeur at Midwest Aero and used a single stage acrylic with flattener in it, instead of Zinc Chromate Primer. It looks just the same and is tough as nails. The primer won't hold up long term.

Oh no, not the acrylic! I was afraid of that. They had to recall it also when it was found to be loaded with MSG. My cockpit is painted in similar light green acrylic, but I was lucky enough to get the last batch domestically produced before they outsourced.

Bill,
are you sure about that, you seem to be acting like you are sniffing something more that 100LL. Take a break from building Spitfire models and open up the windows and air out the room. :D

Eric,

Acrylic? Sounds metrosexual but I know better since your former Army not Navy. It looks sh*t hot! Now all it needs is to fly and get a little sprinkling of R3350 awwwl as Bill and his fellow Texan boys in the south say. (Texas is part of the south, right?). Outstanding work Eric! Hats off to you and your team! See you at Quad Cities.
