I'd research the particular aircraft's history and paint it in a scheme it wore at some point during it's service. If it didn't have a service record, I'd have a P-51D in in 20th FG markings, simply because I have yet to see a warbird painted in that scheme. If a P-51B, then "Short Fuse Salle" of the 354th FG.

Wow, what a great variety everyone! :D

If I had a -51 I would paint it in the markings of the 325th FG. However, the aircraft would be polished not painted silver.

I don't know...I remember seeing a P-51 at Oshkosh 81....it belonged to a Canadian.....I can't remember his name...Gary??? Anyway, it was in a civilian paint scheme....glossy black with silver cheat lines....I thought that was really a tough look...

I'm sort of partial to Black and Gold myself.

Donald Strait's mount "Jersey Jerk" from the 356th Fighter Group. I'm just hoping that no one picks this paint scheme for the next 25 years so that when I can finally afford a Mustang it won't be a duplicate.

Its been rebuilt & was @ GML last fall.
It sits in my hanger now, sans any paint/markings.
Gary McCann's black, ex-CF-FUZ.
