Twenty badges of formations operating under Montgomery's command in the Eighth Army are pinned around the crown of the hat. These badges include:

Royal Horse Artillery,

Royal Armoured Corps,

Royal Tank Regiment,

King's Royal Rifle Corps,

Queen's Royal Regiment (West Surrey),

Queen's Own Highlanders

(Seaforth and Camerons),

Royal Warwickshire Regiment,

The Buffs (Royal East Kent Regiment),

Sherwood Foresters

(Nottinghamshire/ Derbyshire Regiment),

Staffordshire Yeomanry

(Queen's Own Royal Regiment),

Essex Regiment,

Queen's Own Royal West Kent Regiment,

Oxfordshire and Buckinghamshire Light Infantry,

Princess Patricia's Canadian Light Infantry,

Edmonton Regiment (Canada),

Saskatoon Regiment (Canada),

New Zealand forces, and

The unidentified badges are possibly those of Polish units.

Well, yes, west-front, but that was all said in the quote on the previous page, wasn't it?!?

Robbie, I'm absolutely certain Montgomery's 'version' was all about 'look at me' - ego & PR. How much of which is debatable. By discarding the hat for the beret, it was clearly not about remembering where he'd been / served with.

Cheers,

Sorry the previous quote didn't list the units, I thought that might be of interest James

No big issue, I just wondered if I was missing something. And the AWM entry looks like the one the non-authoritative digger history site copied - while the AWM quoted (most of) the units.

But hey, it's not something to argue about - don't stop posting your stuff, yes it is interesting.

I was lucky to be in the movie gray lady down, I had my 10 secs. of fame in h-46 154810,It was the stars stacy keach , reed ,heston ,mister kung foo.and every one else. But that was a long time ago. A lot of it was fictional but with the srv at NASNI and what they could do is true if something like that could happen. I recived some information latley that the srv program has been disbanded . The world changes and every thing updates. Thats progress.
