The cockpit looks original, but very cleaned. Some chips in the paint can be seen, but curiously not many scratches-which would be common in service use. The wiring on the cockpit side is turning colors due to age. I wonder if anyone in the restoration shop could comment on any cockpit work on this bird. Good question at the next tour/outing.
However, I would doubt any -30 airframes were in the ETO. Thus, this airframe is not appropriate to show ETO colors. ( My -25 airframe got to the ETO depot, but was eventually sent back to the states as the war was winding down.) Colors - schmullers.......I'm glad they are indoors and preserved.
Another untouched Mustang sits in the Cleveland museum. This one has not been touched since the Cleveland air races in the late 1940's. And its a true 'K' model!! (The museum may repaint the airframe to a WWII/ETO scheme.)
