This is the place where the majority of the warbird (aircraft that have survived military service) discussions will take place. Specialized forums may be added in the new future

"Dear n5151,
Done, I was also in a crash 8 out of 11 died in the P-3 I was in. As a survivor to me the images I have are a memorial, historical accounting and not a monument to stupidity, but as you requested it has been removed. Ltjg John M. Campbell USNR Ret"
Perhaps LTjg John Campbell should be invited to join this obscure little forum he is made of the right stuff!

definitely. I can see his perspective as well. This is really that age old argument of "is it an important image or is it simply gruesome?" To some of us it is gruesome, to some of us it is important to remember them and learn from what happened. I think I would side with Lt. Campbell on this one, but am grateful that he understands why one of us would be hurt.
Someone want to drop him a line and our web addy?

The wild part is that there are people bidding on it. Who the heck would want any of that?

I think I'd be tempted to bid on the C-47 (that is what it looks like at least) pictures if I have visited the crash site. I'm interested in any crash investigation photos (within reason) of any of the crash sites I have visited. It is part of history and I find it interesting. It also fills in the story of those who lost their lives in serious of the country.
I can't say I'd be at all interested in the AD crash pictures. While maybe a bit tasteless I'd hate to see that ugly piece of the airframe history lost because everyone wants to remember only the sunny days of war birds. Pictures like that do belong in spots like the Warbird Registry IMO. Just my 2 cents, for what little they are worth.

Tim,
The thing to me is they're newspaper photos that seem to be taken with the sensationalism of having the body laying in front of the wreckage.
The wreckage of the AD doesn't bother me so because (I'm assuming) that Harry D.'s remains have be respectfully removed and properly cared for by the authorities and not layed out for the cameraman

I guess I was thinking the "SF Examiner" was something other than a News Rag. I also did not really notice the body bag until you pointed it out above. I can see you point, I was thinking it was some type of crash investigation verses a wreck chasing reporter. It really makes my blood boil to see accident victims and such depicted in 6 o’clock new reports, I do find that tasteless and disrespectful to the core. I guess this is the same thing.

Personally, I don't see a whole lot of difference between the AD picture and a wartime picture. You see plenty of books/films/media reports with dead Nazi's, the USS Arizona ablaze, airliners slamming into the World Trade Center and people love seeing Pacific Wrecks Database and foam at the mouth for pictures of Lady Be Good. People were anxious to see pictures of the Air Venture P-51A crash. All of these crashes/disasters involved people's deaths. It's all historical record. I'm not a fan of showing bodies, but a banged up airplane, I'm not sure what is really the difference between showing it 10 minutes after the bodies were pulled out, 10 years later when it is being restored or 10 decades later when it is in a museum. It is still the same aircraft, the people are still dead, and they still aren't coming back. People who are looking at these pictures aren't excited that someone was killed, they are doing so for historical perspective, curiosities about the crash, etc. I think it is easy to dismiss them, harder to look and learn.
