Jack does it again!!

However, for my own satisfaction, I will still contact my VMB-611 pilot vet who was aboard the Manila Bay to see if he remembers a JM-1 along the deck with his PBJs.

My WWII Marine veteran friend flew in the tail of a JM-1 in Hawaii when towing targets for Marine fighter pilot's air-to-air gunnery training. His job was to make sure the sleeve/target was fully deployed at the start of the fighter runs and then reeled in & stowed at the end of a training mission. He describes it as "pretty exciting" for a "young kid" watching fighters making high speed passes with guns blazing in his "general direction".

That's what I thought odd, why would a Marauder be on a ship transporting USMC aircraft?

Navy and Marine Corps operated the "Navy" version...JM-1 and -2.
patrol sqd., mostly as target tow.
