Here's a crazy idea, why don't they build more hangars? :)

Can't they divert a few $mil away from "gang tattoo removal" in the "stimulus bill" for that?

When the epic restoration of the VS-44A was taking place during the late 80's and 90's in Stratford, a temporary tube frame and canvas hanger was built. It provided enough room to restore the bird and when finished, the structure was disassembled. So why hasn't the Doc group considered this option?

The museum looked at the fabric barns that farmers use; a long term temporary solution. The cost was around a half million for one large enough that could withstand the Kansas weather; that money could be better spent in a permanent hanger fund, in my opinion. The figures for a metal hanger are around a million and a half.

Besides, the aircraft is indoors now, although inaccessible. The major hurdle is funding for engines/props/fuel cells, not a place to work on it. Most of the airframe work is complete, so storage in a secure facility is a good thing.

i don't know.., the website states that the engines had to be returned to Washington because they did not have enough funds to rebuild them.

What is the skinny on the owner of Doc anyway (Tallichet).., someone please PM me so i can know what the heck is going on.

Seems like a great project all around just to get another B-29 in the air!!

Why all the sour grapes?

I am not sure what sour grapes you are talking about.

To quote myself, "The major hurdle is funding for engines/props/fuel cells, not a place to work on it. " I am not sure why you said "I don't know". The engines being returned to Washington is consistent with the funding comment I made.

If you do enough searches, you can find information about the ownership.

I wish they could update the DOC website. This would put to rest many of the questions here. The site hasn't been touched in almost a year...

 I am sure a $3 million donation for engines, props, startup costs, and fuel cells would get a K Square painted on the tail..... :drink3:
