For me it started with the models hanging in my room from day 1, then it went to the airplane books, and somewhere around the time I was 3, Top Gun and my first airshow showed up. Apparently I went nuts at the airshow. Those things made me crazy about airplanes. However, a movie called "Touch The Sky" made me crazy about the Blue Angels and more specifically A-4s. There was also this black and blue A-26 with tons of Korean history that did me in as well. The A-26 disappeared when I was 9, but I'm 23 and we've moved up to a F-4 and I finally got my Skyhawk.

Heck, my first name is Geoffrey (after the DeHavilland kind) and my middle name is Ryan (after the T. Claude kind) so I was screwed from the start.

My father used to watch "The World At War" and I would watch it with him. I also distinctly remember watching "The Battle of Britain" for the first time when it came on TV in the mid-70s, but it went on past my bed time, so I never saw the whole movie until years later.

As a Cub Scout, I had a subscription to Boys' Life, and one of the issues was about the Confederate Air Force. (Does anyone still have that issue? It would have been in 1977). I thought it was cool that old World War II airplanes were still flying.

Those experiences got me to start checking out library books, which then led me to model building, which lead me to reading more books, which eventually, when I became old enough, led me to go to airshows.

My first love was seeing those beautiful B-17's lined up at E.A.A. every summer and watching them fly during the airshows. Made quite an impression on an 8 year old kid!

For me it was Oshkosh in about 1974, the EAA Museum in Hales Corners, and riding my bike to both Chicagoland Airport to see the Hellcat and the Victory Air Museum.

Going to the movies to see the Battle of Britain, those aerial scenes did it for me!

For myself, it was watching one of the BBMF Spitfires practicing over my local park. I live under the flight path of RAF Northolt and the BBMF always used to be flying in when I was younger. I always loved seeing the Lancaster coming over the house with the gear down.

Chalk up another adolescent victim of 12 O'clock High. Mom walked in during one episode and remarked, "Did I ever tell you about my cousin who was killed in a B-17?"

Hook, line, and sinker...

On vacation my sisters were forced to do things like this

But I'm not complaining lol because the thing that made it worth it was moments like this

If I only had a couple million I would turn this

So I could do a little more of this

Although my world and interest both revolve around Warbirds of the Great War these days, one never forgets his/her first love. For me, it was the B-25 (yes, those pictures above make me drool). I was 7 when my dad bought me a 1/48 scale Monogram B-25, and it was all downhill from there.

The F4U Corsair came next and I loved watching Blaksheep Squadron!

And since we seem to be counting, I was 17 when Top Gun came out. I thought it was the coolest movie ever (still do!).
