That was not a hard landing. It was a stall crash. Saw it happen.

From the press release

For Immediate Release

CAF’s B-29 FIFI & Aaron Tippin Get Red, White & Loud

MIDLAND, TEXAS (July 27, 2010) – On Tues., July 27, 2010 at a special press conference held at EAA AirVenture 2010, the Commemorative Air Force (CAF) unveiled plans for an extraordinary teaming of two American treasures, the CAF’s Red, White & Loud Tour starring Aaron Tippin and the B-29 FIFI.

The world’s only flight-worthy Boeing B-29 Superfortress FIFI, and country music star/patriot Aaron Tippin will launch the CAF’s Red, White & Loud Tour celebrating America’s freedom through song and the roaring radial engines of one of the world’s most famous warbirds.

At each tour stop, the CAF’s B-29 FIFI will arrive with Aaron Tippin aboard. Once qualified, Aaron will begin co-piloting the heavy bomber to future stops. Audiences of the CAF’s Red, White & Loud Tour will have the once-in-a-lifetime chance to see Aaron perform such songs as Where the Stars and Stripes and the Eagle Fly in front of the world’s only flying B-29, FIFI!

The CAF’s B-29 FIFI will be available for guided tours and the public will also have an opportunity to purchase a ride in the Boeing B-29 Superfortress for the first time in history! Rides can be purchased in advance by visiting http://www.cafb29b24.org.

In addition, the CAF has announced the first stop on this unique tour will be in Denver, Colo. at the Colorado Sport International Air Show, Aug. 28 and 29, 2010, at Rocky Mountain Metropolitan Airport.

“This is the first of several stops in 2010-2011 for the CAF’s Red, White & Loud Tour starring Aaron Tippin and the B-29 FIFI,” said CAF President and CEO Stephan Brown. “Aaron is a great supporter of our American troops and veterans, as well as the Commemorative Air Force and what we stand for, Honoring American Military Aviation through flight, exhibition and remembrance.”

Sounds great!

I hope all the planes at Oshkosh are tied down nice & tight. The weather radar shows a nasty looking squall line bearing down on that portion of Wisconsin.

I'm sorry to hear about Mr. Roush and passenger. I'm afraid I can't add any info to the accident as I had left the grounds by 5:00.

The following are just a few pics from Tuesday. I'm not a photographer. Camera used was my daughter's point-n-click, and her comment to me was "No wonder they didn't turn out--it was on the wrong setting!"

And with that disclaimer, here's just a surface scratching:

Why don't more use warbirds as backdrops for family pics? Here's today's posse.

It was nigh impossible to get pics of the Seafire without body parts attached. She's still beautiful in spite of my efforts.

And yes: the mud was real, but taken in stride.

Heading back Thursday and Friday. Any requests?

Kinda looks like a validating incident for the recent helmet discussion.

The Seafire looks incredible. :D Well worth the wait to see it restored to flying condition.

Thanks for posting the photos.

I'm very relieved that Mr. Roush survived his mishap. He has done much for warbird operations... especially the Merlin engine and P-51's as well.

Looked like a good day for my wife and I to stay away from Oshkosh. Went to Fond Du Lac airport to see the Dixie Wing and Barbie III giving rides and then the Seaplane Base. What a great little spot that is. Finished off with a very long drawn out Brewers/Reds game.

Photos to follow tomorrow, maybe.

Dan K.,

Thanks for the pictures of the Tsunami project and others. Can you opr someone get some of the yellow-spinnered P-51 with the yellow/black triangular spokes nose ring?

Also any attending Thunder Mustangs.

...and, of course, (on a fluke) any P-63's that may surprise (Kermit Week's, Bagley's, ....?)

Thanks,

Lowell

I'll get right on that Thunder Mustang & P-63 request (Would a P-39 do?).

I don't get overly excited by P-51's, but here are a few snippets:
