I'lm backtracking and playing catch up and totally wowed by all. How many B-17's were there? Three or four? Two Libs together must have been a breathtaking sight!
Chico, as a tug guy myself at Lone Star, I loved the two tug scene with Ol 927. Classic dude, classic.

Current military out of Key West. They've been everywhere this year! No complaints, they're just about my favorite Navy birds now with Hoovers and Prowlers going away very soon.

Rich

Correction there Rich, that F-5 was from NAS Fallon in Nevada, VFC-13 (Fighter Squadron Composite 13) with the "Fighting Saints" from the Aggressor Squadron.

Ooh, thanks for the correction. Mea culpa.

Equipment was a Canon 20D with a Canon 100-400 zoom with IS.

Well...If some of you experienced photogs were having problems with the lighting, I'll reconsider my assumed ineptness and try again at Midland.
It still makes me mad that the only chance I'll probably ever have to see 4 P-47s flying together isn't preserved with some decent pics.

Mudge the hopeful :D

ps. Thanks to all of youse troops who gave me advice on how to get good pictures. The fact that I wasn't able to do it doesn't diminish my appreciation of the effort.

Mudge
My pictures of the 4 P-47s came out like crap also, It looks like they were all painted black.

I found (was told) putting the camera in "Manual Mode" worked for me (thanks Roger for that tip!). All you need to do is find the setting that work for you (I guess that is the hard part but I think that changes second to second like it did Sunday, so giving you values isn't going to be much of a help).

It was great to talk to you, Mrs. Mudge, and Friend of Mudge. I hope that we don't have to wait a year to talk again.

Hi guys, and Mudge, I had the same dark silhouette issues as did the others, and even manual mode could easily washout backgrounds. It was a challenging weekend when your shooting against the sun, and add clouds of various hues to the mix. As Gary mentioned, and I was there last year, Midland is an excellent place for sun and photography angles.........

My only regret about the whole weekend ( can it be a week ago already ? ) was I didn't get to spend more time / meet more fellow WIXers at the event .....

Saturday for me was mostly about taking rides in the three bombers ( B-24 ~ Witchcraft / B-17 ~ Yankee Lady / B-25 ~ Yankee Warrior ) followed by an invitation to go over to the YAF Hanger for the aircrew dinner ! ( Where I did meet some old friends and fellow WIXers :D )

Sunday I decided I had a lot of catching up to do with the static aircraft ~ I did these with a Canon G9 point and shoot rather than lug the DSLR kit around .....

Peter,
Nice meeting you Friday. Looks like there was a wardrobe change
on "The Movie" Memphis Belle since this was taken in June.

Sundays Wildcat flight was breath taking to say the least! Wow, I wish more warbirds were shown that way!
Image

I love that the turret was lowered, I have not seen that sense 1991 at Geneseo!
Image

It was also nice that the P-51B flew a good amount for the show. I was very greatful for that.

And some WIX members

Some tall guy that I had in several of my pictures, this time but a bit more than his hat.

Ok, so I went out of my way for that shot.

Just when I thought I had a great shot of Bernie shooting the Baby, AIRIC jumped in on the action and I was ready (for the most part).
I'd name this one "Aye, Ah Baby."

The photography is nice, but I'm a little disappointed that a WIXer would give their daughter a toy with such a disproportionately-sized tailwheel. Okay, maybe I'm being just a LITTLE too critical. :)

Me thinks we need to give you shoe extensions......... :D

This doesn't really belong here, but it's from the shoot I did in Grand Haven, MI, of Jason Petroelje Macchi M-5 replica that I told you guys about, with Eric Presten as pilot a few days earlier.

Eric, Yes, by all means capture mor randoms. Allison is a real cutie! My granddaughter has a very similar expression with the little wrinkle nose grin. Awfully nice of you to give her a Bolt Bolt that looks an awful lot like Tarheel Hal.

blue skies and more pix.
