OK...I'm gonna' have to take some photography classes somewhere. Either that or just give up and sell all my stuff. The great majority of my pics were so dark, I wouldn't have known what a/c they were if I hadn't been there.
Really pi$$es me off that I don't seem to be able to take a decent flying shot.
My pictures from Normandy were great. Of course, none of them were moving and against bright sky.
I dunno'. Maybe just go and watch and then enjoy the pics youse troops post.

Mudge the disappointed :toimonster:

Yeah...yeah...I know...a little cheese with that

Sorry to hear about your camera woes, Mudge. You'll have to try again here in Midland! :-D

Is that F-5 current military or some lucky sob that won the lottery?

She was wearing her Yankee gear for the Yankee Air Force :) We took in a game at Yankee Stadium a few weeks back. She had to go before they tear it down. We met up with Bill and Sanna at the Park and had dinner with Rich.

If it makes you feel any better Mudge the majority of my shots were dark as well. The lighting conditions were extremely challenging due to the clouds. I tried some manual settings, but I need more practice.

Don't give up!

The lighting both days was a challenge even for the best of us. Bright back light skies with heavy thunderclouds. Does not matter what camera you were using the lighting would fool any camera metering system. Most metering systems will work fine with the sun behind you and nice blue skies but throw in the mix of lighting conditions like we had at Thunder and you can see how badly it screws up your metering.

Manual setting was the way to go but if you don’t know what you’re doing then you can make them even worse.

Current military out of Key West. They've been everywhere this year! No complaints, they're just about my favorite Navy birds now with Hoovers and Prowlers going away very soon.

Mudge, if you're using a digital SLR, you most likely have an exposure compensation button near the shutter button. I over-exposed 1.3 stops (it goes up and down in 1/3 stop incriments, you select +1 or +1.3 to over-expose to this extent) on the bombers especially while shooting on either matrix or center-weighted.

It might sound a bit complicated, but it's really not. Because there is no direct sunlight on the aircraft, but the sky is fairly well lit because it wasn't totally overcast, you have a very dark subject with a moderately-lit background for the most part. My B-17 landing shots came out quite good using this method.

Correction there Rich, that F-5 was from NAS Fallon in Nevada, VFC-13 (Fighter Squadron Composite 13) with the "Fighting Saints" from the Aggressor Squadron.
