Steve Hinton earned his pay today, 93f and he was flying the heck out of the Il-2 while I was @ FoF @ KPAE this mid day. Now obviously he wasn't thrashing it, but the ALLISON was pretty mellow sounding, but with a completely different tone to it than the P-40-we aren't used to this much heat I about melted watching him.

That was actually Jim Martinelli flying the IL-2. Steve's in Santa Rosa, CA at the moment for the air show this weekend. ; )

The IL-2's been building up some nice exhaust residue from all of the recent flights and engine runs!

I was fortunate to see the IL-2 as well. Good for Jim! I enjoyed working with him! He's a good guy!

I wonder why the drone guys can't get the red bar in the Natl insignia !

The red fades very quickly on the Holloman drones.

Today I saw the usual stuff~ a 757, 737, and a A-319.
I also saw some other stuff like an EA-6B and a P-51!!!
Being as close to BLI as I am, I know who the 'usual suspects' are when I see a P-51.
But today- I'm not too certain...

I can be certain as to why it's here~

Instead of attending that-
I 'might' be headed to a Studebaker show down in Tacoma...

VL - if you get chance in the future, how about a closeup on that Phantom? pop2

In other news, we here at the Pioneer Flight Museum on the Old Kingsbury Aerodrome got the Dr.I triplane's 80 HP Le Rhone rotary purring, and accomplished a few successful taxi tests today. It sounds kind of like a Merlin. If you think I'm full of sh*t, just come to our Fall Fly-In and see for youself, would love to have you. Sorry I wasn't able to get a picture to show you, but I too busy doing important airplane stuff to sit around snapping pictures like some people around here. 8) :axe:

Saw HARS Caribou A4-210 and Dakota A65-94 take off for an memorial overflight of a Vietnam Veterans Parade at Springwood (Suburb of Sydney) in memory of the battle of Long Tan in which a company of Australian troops ~100 fought off an ambush and attack from a well disciplined Battalion of North Vietnamese regulars.

For Australia it was the single biggest lost of life in the Vietnam War with some 18 KIA in this one day action......NVA losses were ~250KIA.

LEST WE FORGET

25/8 a lovely sunny day and saw some action. In general a busy day all round with the regular GA stuff but a couple of warbirds thrown into the mix, a T-6G SAAF Scheme, T-28B "Miss-Stress", EX-RAAF Trainer CAC Winjeel and also a Russian Antonov AN-2 dropped in for a short while. Noted a couple of non-area resident Classic single Commanches stopping in to at different times.

Nice day indeed.

Again, no idea who but @ 0600 this morning 8/25 I was again pleasantly awakened by someone departing KBVS in a T-6 into whats going to be a beautiful day :D. Between the train whistles @ night and sounds like that T-6, it's gonna be tough to have to close the bedroom window this Fall. :|

Nope. But this show was just around the corner from there!!!
I have vowed to not go to LeMay's until the Avanti (s/n 1001) I am working on for them is done.
Being that it's the FIRST Avanti built- it's sort of a big deal for all the StudeFolks involved... geek :supz:

I hear ya there!!! I'm just about a mile and a half from the tracks where I am here at Dad's~ and I'm even closer if I'm at my shop. I absolutly LOVE the sound of those BIG locos powering up after sitting in that siding just north of Ferndale. On a calm night I can hear the horns warning of crossings five miles north and/or south of here... :D 8)

Speaking of T-6s... there was at least one out and about in the skys over Whatcom County this afternoon.
Though I wasn't close enough to see it- I'm certain that is what I heard... :o :)

Had a guy fly over in what appeared to be a FAIRCHILD 71 painted all red yesterday mid day pretty hazzy with the jet stream dragging smoke from Siberian forest fires over us.

If you've got 1001 you should contact HEMMINGS CLASSIC CARS for a photo article of the resto

8/28, 1450 hr. Bill and Greg Anders in the SPAD and Valhalla in tighter than 5 minutes to 11 @ 2500 heading South towards I'd guess KPAE for this Saturdays Vintage Airplane Weekend show, interesting sound with the MERLIN @ middlin' power and the 3350 chewin' the molecules @ middlin' power too.
