Great shots!! Who owns Miss Marvel? I thought Race 69 was Cliff Cummings Miss Candace back in the day.

'Miss Marvel' is owned by Jim Rust of Reno, NV (former owner/president of WhirlWind Propellers, now part of Hartzell, and Reno air race pilot). The aircraft used to be known for many years as 'Barbara Jean' when owned by Harry Barr

Great to see some Garbs pix, always one of my favorite Airventure 'pitcher-takers'. I've never seen a Bronco shot quite like that before, in more or less perfect profile, and I find it fascinating.
Encore!

Ahh thank you. I have an affinity for the Reno paint jobs.

The "69" is actually a tribute to when she was "Georgia Mae" with John Putman back in the 80s.

A couple off my cellphone - haven't seen much of these elsewhere:
This Stearman was in a "Recall" scheme. They'd send one of these up when weather was going bad to recall all of the NORDO students.

Haven't seen this A-26 before, that I know of:

And then Fagen's P-47:

A question on that Stearman (lovely btw) but the insignia is on the starboard wing, was wondering the why behind this?

I got my info from this note the pilot/owner had taped to the prop:

It really doesn't say much about the presence or absence of insignia on the wings. Here's another angle:

Do we know how many black and white striped Stearmans are painted and flying like this? I have a very distinct memory of back in like 1998/99 seeing one fly overhead while I was playing a scrimmage practice soccer match when I was probably 12 or 13 behind Hillcrest Middle School in Trumbull, CT. Needless to say my coach was yelling at me to keep running with the ball when I stopped and looked up to see what looked like this Stearman fly low and slow over the field.

It was to notify student pilots to return to base because of bad weather inbound. Very specific.
It was a very striking Stearman, navy blue and white with yellow. Plus I love seeing anything different.
