Just found this in my inbox today.

Dear Thunder Fans,

We wanted to reach out and let you know that we have decided to change this year's dates of the Thunder Over Michigan Air Show back to our traditional early August time frame (August 10-11) to help accommodate a bigger show, number and quality of performers, and an overall better time for our loyal fans.

We have traditionally held the show in early August but, we initially moved this year's show to mid-June in order to accommodate the scheduling of the United States Air Force Thunderbirds. With the Thunderbirds' entire 2013 season, including a scheduled weekend at Thunder Over Michigan, grounded due to the federal budget sequestration, we sought to move the show back to its usual August dates.

Early August is what our fans have come to expect for Thunder and we are pleased that we can move back to our normal dates. The August dates now allow us to secure additional world-class performers, statics, and displays; the weather is historically much better than in June; and there is less conflict with other events then.

We recently announced the addition of a very rare aerial demonstration by the North American Aviation F-100 Super Sabre. The show will also feature world-renowned civilian aerobatic performer Michael Goulian, a demonstration by the only single-seat flyable German Me-262 jet in the world, crowd-favorites WWII and Vietnam battle reenactments, two specially-restored Vietnam-era UH-1 Huey helicopters, and a special "Vietnam Homecoming" celebration for Veterans. Click Here to Learn More!

We have just begun releasing what is going to be a very thrilling, unprecedented air show lineup. With the change in dates, we will be announcing more exciting lineup additions in the next several weeks. We thank you for your ongoing support for the 2013 Thunder Over Michigan Air Show.

The web site has been updated with the new dates:

http://www.yankeeairmuseum.org/airshow/

The upside of this is that that since the date does not conflict with Hamilton it allows the Mosquito and Skyraider (two Skyraiders at Thunder as of now) to come to Thunder now. And as far as I know all of the previously planned warbirds including the F-100 are still coming on the new dates and hopefully a lot more warbirds before all is said and done.

Since this is Vietnam based theme...

has anyone contacted Dr. Joe Masessa about bringing his OV-1 Mohawk? That would be a nice addition to the Vietnam battle. He is out of New Jersey and keeps his plane down in West Palm Beach area - but goes down nearly every weekend and flies it at different shows. He has done some Vietnam battle reenactments with it at TICO Warbird show in the past and also flies it at Sun N Fun during the warbird/pyro portion of the show doing dives with the OV-1.

All,

The Mosquito visit to TOM this August is highly anticipated. A local Detroit resident, Royal Canadian Air Force (RCAF) Flight Lieutenant (FL) Charles Emanuel "Pop" Edinger, DFC, MiD, was a 6 kill Mosquito Night Fighter (NF) Ace flying with 410 "Cougar" NF Squadron.

His complete story will be in Volume 2 of my book "Remembering The Canadian Yanks" due out at the end of 2013.

Cheers,

Tom Walsh.

Sounds like it will be a Great book, Tom!

Even though the Mosquito coming to Thunder was not exactly a secret for the last week or so, it is OUTSTANDING to see it added to the show lineup!

Also looking at the show web site, I wonder if since the dates are now in August that the YAM B-17 "Yankee Lady" will now be at Thunder for the show and perhaps the B-17 "Chuckie" from the MAM is now not coming.

I know that the "Flight Schedule" on the MAM web site shows the Mosquito, Me-262 and the AD-4 Skyraider as their 3 aircraft coming to Thunder for the show.

Also wondering if the C-1A Trader announced way back is still part of the August show lineup?

Can't wait to hear what additional warbirds may be in store for what may end up as one of the best Thunder Over Michigan shows ever.

:D

Yes...."Miss Belle," the Grumman C-1A Trader that was originally scheduled for the June show is still booked and will be participating in TOM during the second weekend of August. It will be arriving on Friday alongside it's hangar mate, the Douglas AC-47D "Spooky."

Thanks Sasnak! Looking forward to seeing the C-1 and AC-47 arrive on Friday, August 9 during the Taxiway Photography/Arrival Day.

Both of these are outstanding warbirds for the show!

I love the Skyraider. Wasn't this the theme aircraft back in 2006, when 4-5 were supposed to show up - but due to a major weather front that went to the east coast only 1 ended up showing up? Then a couple years later 3 showed up. How many Skyraiders are there left flying?

I got N188RH (gray), N62466 (dark blue) and N2AD (camo and smaller cockpit) here as well as N65164 (gray) that shows up at Sun N Fun often. How many others out there besides those 4?
