We were throwing some guesses around on ASB as to what 1 of the 6 newly confirmed aircarft is. Looks like we got one! Not sure whether it'll be both days or just Saturday or Sunday, have to wait to Kevin reply's to my post.

Quote:
Bingo! We have a B-52 flyby from Barksdale AFB confirmed!
Our tentative plan is to have the B-52 come by right after the conclusion of the Vietnam Battle.
Kevin

EDIT: B-52 will be Saturday only.

A combat veteran C-130E Hercules from the Arkansas ANG will be at Thunder!

Here is a brief history of 62-1787. The aircraft was part of a three ship formation trying to drop ammo/mortar rounds into a soccer field at An Loc Vietnam. The date was April 15, 1972. During the run in, the aircraft was hit numerous times with .51 Cal anti aircraft rounds. This resulted in the death of the flight engineer, TSgt Jon Sanders. It also severely wounded the co-pilot and navigator. The rounds also set the airdrop bundles on fire, ruptured bleed airlines in the cargo compartment and knocked out both the number one and number two engines. One of the loadmasters, SSgt Charlie Shaub jettisoned the load and fought the fire. He saved the aircraft. He then hand cranked the landing gear down enroute to the airfield. While on final the aircraft lost a third engine. The aircraft commander, Capt Bill Caldwell, and SSgt Charlie Shaub were awarded the Air Force Cross for their actions. The Air Force Cross is second only to the Medal of Honor. The aircraft is scheduled to go to the Air Force Museum when it is retired. It is the most decorated C-130 in the inventory and currently has nose art commemorating it's actions in Vietnam.

Cheers,

Tom Walsh.

Guys, don't get too worked up over this " dogfight deal". There's a bunch of issues with the "dogfight" scenario. We will definitely be doing an F-4D demo.

Define "demo"... what does this involve?

With all the Lockheeds showing, (C-130)it's a shame ya'll couldn't have had a few more different types in their family in attendance...P-38...C-121...or even one of the two flyable PV-2s...

Rick,
Is the F-4 going to be there Saturday and Sunday? I'm flying up on Saturday to visit family, but won't be able to make it to the show until Sunday.

Are there any WIX gatherings at Thunder? It would be nice to meet some of you guys and ladies. Sounds like there are going to be quite a few of us there.

We're planning on sending her up on Thursday, she'll arrive after 4:00 per Michael's direction.
