Looks to be a combat veteran Mustang?

After VE-Day, some of the "latest on the scene" rocket-equipped P-51D/K's and recon F-6 Mustangs in the ETO were sent back to the US in preparation for making the move to the Pacific. That is how a few Malcolm hood F-6C's turned up in the States, like the one pictured there at the University of Miami, post VJ-Day, having been shipped home from England in anticipation of going to the Pacific, which never came to be. Late-production, low-time F-6C's were looked upon as a valued commodity, as the B/C fuselage was preferred for better available camera setups (this according to Mustang researcher/expert extraordinaire, the late Michael Vorrasi). As many already know I'm sure, the Malcolm hood was only ever installed as a field-modification (never from the factory) and only on Mustangs that operated in the ETO (RAF, 8th AF and 9th AF).
