Both would be on your way.

Fort Ticonderoga is a big part of our trip. It will now be the northernmost stop on our trip. I'm planning on spending all day there. It looks like a great place for kids.

BTW, it came up in our planning conversation because of this book, in which Henry Knox and the capture of the guns at Ft. Ticonderoga play a role. If you have new readers, I cannot recommend highly enough "Nathan Hale's Hazardous Tales." They have totally engaged Jr. They do a great job of covering history accurately but in a really engaging way for youth readers. Don't get me started on the one about Pearl Harbor and the Doolittle Raid! Great stuff.

If StangStung means you're a Mustang driver, several of the great driving roads in the country are along your route, on the WEST side of the Hudson: Route 218 from Cornwall to West Point (the USMA), which is the Old Storm King Highway. Route 9W also between Cornwall and West Point. The Palisades Parkway from Bear Mountain to the George Washington Bridge. And a variety of wonderful, meandering roads within Bear Mountain State Park, such as Seven Lakes Drive. 218 and 9W are favorite motorcycling roads during the summer. As a volunteer ambulance driver, we used to start picking up the bodies in May and it was nonstop through October, every nice weekend.

I used to be the Editor of Car and Driver, and I've tested a variety of exotic cars on all those roads.

PM me if you need any other advice on that specific area. We live about five miles north of West Point, in Cornwall-on-Hudson. I also know ORA well, for all its faults.

Checking on Beekman Arms. I believe it was even mentioned in a previous version of "1000 places to go before you die."

As to StangStung, why yes, I'm a Mustang driver. Er, I was...and I will be again. Our first family car, the one my parents brought me home from the hospital in when I was born, was a 1965 Mustang. Then that same car, after resto, was my first car in high school. Now it's currently undergoing its' second restoration in my garage. I'm only about six weeks and a metric F*ton of money away from having it completed. So maybe this year...maybe next....But that's a story for another time.

I've already reached out the WP folks for a tour. Turns out I'm too early. They won't have August dates until April. But that's definitely on the list.

I visit Ft. Ti annually, they do a great job there. You can definitely spend the day. I am always impressed that everytime I go there is something new to see. I usually visit ORA as it is on the way there, a few hours south.

Sounds like you've got a great trip planned ORA, MAAM, and NEAM are always a good visit.

Ahhh yes the Massholes. Can't be too careful either around the Chode Islanders, Connecticunts, or New Dorkers! Still haven't figured out a good name for NH, VT, or ME.
