The Unofficial Oshkosh 2019 Thread

Hello all,

I guess it's that time of the year again, maybe a little early but there's plenty to talk about already. So next years AirVenture will be from July 22-28th with no known themes or chosen aircraft yet but tickets were released a few days ago. Here's the list of potential warbirds for 2019:

-XP-82 Twin Mustang, plus perhaps the other F/P-82 Twin Mustang.
-Rod Lewis' Mosquito
-CWHM Firefly (their Facebook post indicated they were working towards the goal of having it attend Oshkosh)
-Fagen F6F Hellcat and SB2C Helldiver
-National Museum of WWII Aviation P-38 "White 33" and Brewster Corsair (they sent their Tigercats in 2018 so maybe a good indication they want to bring over more of their warbirds)
-B-25H "Berlin Express"
-Kermit Weeks' Boeing 100 (has said it would make Oshkosh 2019 if everything stayed on track)

I did hear the 'Daks over Normandy' tour would finish their European tour with the North American C-47's going to Oshkosh.

You also have to believe NASA will be heavily involved with the 50th anniversary of the Apollo 11 mission.

Lastly, whilst it's not warbirds but still newsworthy, the RAF Red Arrows have just unofficially announced a 9-week North American tour during August and September. Yes, Oshkosh is the last weekend of July but you have to believe if there's a chance EAA can get them, where better to exploit the team than Oshkosh.

Definitely going to try to make 2019 Airventure. 2018 was my first year and I'm hooked.

Kermit seemed pretty disenchanted with Oshkosh this year. I don't remember if it was said he wouldn't bring anymore planes period, or just the WWI stuff. Would be a shame to not have any FoF aircraft at Airventure.

I wonder what is happening with his A-26 at Aero Trader? Some of the update videos indicated he wanted to make it to Oshkosh 2018 with it which didn't happen.

Fifi confirmed! July 23-26th

FIFI won’t be at Oshkosh. The current plan is for them to be doing rides in Appleton. Lil may come to Oshkosh for a very limited visit. It hasn’t been decided.

Per Facebook, Mig Alley Airshows will have the F-86 (Keppeler) and F-5 (Kaney) there.

Unless I'm interpreting this incorrectly, the current advertised schedule appears to be:

Diamond 'Lil arrives at KOSH on Sunday and there through Tuesday. Then she offers rides out of Appleton Wednesday and Thursday.

FIFI has rides scheduled for Tuesday and Wednesday.

I imagine some flexibility is designed into the schedule to address inclement weather.

In recent years of attending, FIFI has typically spent at least 1-2 days on the OSH ramp. The trick has been figuring out which days. At worst, Air Venturers get to see her fly overhead as the outbound & inbound legs of the rides route typically bring her over the assembled masses.

Reading between the lines and looking at the tea leaves, Kermit has hinted at a big move this year with FoF. He makes mention of it at the end of the 2 part video of the Shorts that he just released. It may be that he’s just going scale things back for Oshkosh while this is getting going.

Had a chance to walk through Weeks' Hangar last weekend. Berlin Express is well on the way to being flight ready in time for the show:









Aluminum Overcast was also in the hangar, getting an engine change and an annual inspection. The Eddy Current guys were due in this week ( I think) to check the spar attach points:

The EAA B-25 has really been looking great! I've heard that she'll be making some tour stops with the B-17 this summer - including at the Anoka County, Minnesota airport from July 4-7 (home to EAA Chapter 237, which has been so instrumental in its restoration to airworthy).

The Warbirds in Review ideas/plans sound really good! I'm glad that there is the prospect of having at least a couple examples of the Firefly flying this year (hoping to someday see Ed Kurdziel's Firefly flying again - I haven't heard much about it since it had the landing gear failure in 2012). I'd tally the two potential Hellcats to the Fagen Fighters and Collings Foundation examples. With regard to the special P-38, it would be awesome if it were the Slattery/National Museum of WWII Aviation P-38F "White 33".

Eddie’s Firefly was flying in time to make last year’s WIR but they couldn’t work out the schedule. Plans are to have it on the west ramp for at least part of the week (will be lots of A/C movements there this year) plus he is tentative for a spot one night in Theater in the Woods. Last I heard anyway.
