I have a high detail drawing by well known aviation artist Wirt Silvis, of a Blue Angels F8F-1, circa 1948.

This Bearcat is the "solo" aircraft and has the name "Beetle Bomb" in fairly large Navy Blue letters on the port engine cowling. The plane is overall a bright Blue Angel yellow and the leading edge of the wings are the same yellow color.

Don't know if this is considered valid evidence, or not. 8)

The Beetle Bomb was used to show US tactics on our advisaries. So the BB always played the bad guy. Ive read that they even had a pod underneath the BB that had a dummy Japanese pilot that would pop out and parachute down during the show. There was some talk at the table once when deciding the paint scheme for the LSFM Bearcat about painting her like the beetle bomb.
