Thanks for posting those photos, I'd never seen any of them before.
This is the kind of subject that makes me annoyed to see yet another book on D-Day in Normandy, when stuff like this is almost completely uncovered by historians.
I recall many years ago meeting one of these bomber crewmen and he said he loved the duty because they were given all kinds of goodies to share with the POWs and of course the former kriegies loved the bomber crews for getting them away from all that. I think he also said they got to rotate home faster because of it.
I so badly wish I'd taken more notes from that conversation, but that was back when there were still plenty of these vets still around...
