Interesting pictures, Donner. When I visited Carlsbad, I assumed that the guy who reluctantly showed us the Bearcat in his hangar was Mr. Martin, but after seeing your pictures, maybe it was Mr. Friedkin. The man who we talked to had straight, dark hair, which doesn't correlate with your pictures of Mr. Martin, and was wearing a leather flight jacket that looked brand new, just like his Bearcat.

I forgot to mention previously that there must have been around 7 or 8 guys all over the P-38, stripping and washing it down, and one of them told us it had just arrived back into the country.

Yes, it doesn't sound like that was Dick that you met. I do have a picture somewhere of Dick taken I think in the late 70's or early 80's when Swede happened to be in Carlsbad. I just haven't been able to locate it.

I hope you locate that picture. Then I think I'll know for sure if it was Mr. Martin we saw, or someone else.

The only possibility would be the guy second from the right, with his hands together. But the guy we talked to was kind of short and stocky, and his hair was short on the sides, he didn't have a mustache, and never smiled, so it is hard to tell from the picture.

Nope. The picture of Martin with the open-cockpit biplane looks like the guy we saw, except for the hair.
