KD431i Folks:
Good day!
...the absence of an ID cockpit plate on this bird is another book story itself!!
The U.S F4U id cockpit plates & the FAA Royal Navy ID plates were a bit different. They were clearly marked as "B" or with letters & numbers. Included is a pic of a UK F4U-1 "JT-289" c. 1943. It was flown by the late Lt. John D. Wallace, Brunswick NAS c. Dec 1943 before his fatal accident..
KD431 had a cockpit id plate installed on the L/wall just above the left console. For now, it remains missing! Perhaps is still out there somewhere!! Photo via Wix. Data via Drew King.

Good day!
Perhaps FG-1D Buno 92399 at Cavanough Flight Museum may yield a few clues if it still displays its original UK factory cockpit plate. We are about to find out. To illustrate, what the KD431 cockpit id plate may have looked like when in place. c. 1944. Photo via AEC.
