Regarding Kermit Weeks, B-29, 44-70049, reportedly in storage at Borrego Springs, California. I am wondering if anyone in this community has ever laid eyes on the plane? I live in San Diego, CA, and am more than willing to drive over there to get any pictures possible to confirm the actual presence. Short of the drive, if anyone has the coordinates for a Google map search they would be much appreciated.

I thought the Borego Springs storage compound was off limits to the public.

Steve, I seem to remember that being the case as well but even a disassembled B-29 has some serious storage dimensions. I have been out to Borrego Springs a number of times and there is nothing at the small strip I can remember being remotely large enough to "hide" a '29. I am hoping someone out there in WIX has an idea as to a location I can respectfully scout out. Same for another reported Week's B-29 , 44-84084, also reportedly at Borrego Springs.

The storage yard can be found on Google Maps satellite view if you hunt around long enough.

If you would like to visit I'd strongly advise you to call Aerotrader before hand and ask permission. From what I've heard they aren't too fond of surprise visitors. Do some searching here on WIX and you might find some more images. I'd imagine that the B-29 hasn't changed much since these pictures were taken. http://www.aerotrader.net/ Click on "B-29 Proj."

I thought Fertile Myrtle was dissembled and stored in Florida. I thought the B-29 in Borrego Springs was a different B-29. Am I wrong?

I believe parts of "Fertyle Myrtle" are with Aero Trader, but he also has parts of one of the other B-29's used in the film.

Thanks to all who have replied but I feel that I need to clarify something as to wanting to see these B-29s. I have always respected the fact that owners of rare aircraft have every right to either admit or deny access to their aircraft and I honor their wishes. All I am looking for is some idea where the disassembled planes might be located and if they, or the buildings they are in, are viewable from a public road or public vantage point.

Many thanks, now all I need is some cooler wx. Based on the images I'm willing to bet that there are no trespassing signs posted all over the place but who knows, maybe a sympathetic fellow wing-nut guarding the gate will feel generous and allow entry. Will advise.

Greg by the looks of it I don't see you being able to get close enough on any publicly accessible road to be able to see much of anything to make it worth the effort. I'd suggest contacting the folks at Aero Trader before you head out there and see what they may say. You never know you might catch one of those folks on a good day and they may perhaps grant you permission of some sort. You never know. Not trying to discourage you from making an effort on your own, just hate for you to drive all the way out there for nothing and possibly chance a negative experience. By the looks of the satellite image on Google maps you can certain zoom into the area quite clearly.

Don't take this as a jab at you personally but FWIW It seems dicy to me in general to simply go out there and start walking around even if you're not on private property. Just seems not the thing to do ... but that's just me.

Whatever your decision think it over a bit first and best of luck.

What exactly is the property in Borrego Springs? Is it a junkyard, a storage facility, a business, private residence??? From Google Maps it looks like it contains a little bit of everything, cars, planes, boats, etc..??

I guess the best way to look at it, is think about if it were your property. Would you really like for strangers to be snooping around taking pictures of your private property even if they were across the street on public property? People can do as they wish as long as no laws are broken ... but it doesn't make it right.

To be clear, Greg I'm sure has nothing but good intentions, but good intentions doesn't make it OK to do certain things.
