All part of the family, yes. Are you related to the 350th Mark?

No, I just enjoy the "hunt" ... I like to see what I can help dig up for the vets and kin from time to time. It's always nice to see others doing the same for these folks as well. So many relatives of veterans haven't a clue how to search or do research for history of their family service members such as what some of us here try to provide. IMO it's the least a few of us can do. I enjoy it so I keep trying to see what's out there. My signature below pretty much sums it up for me.
It's never been, and will never be about me, it's ALL about the vets. They earned it! and like I said it's the least I can do to try to pay back a small bit I feel I owe them for the life I get to live.
Keep up your great work as it means a tremendous amount to many.

Hello all im looking for help to find info on a ww2 vet i met this pass weekend at an airshow. I was able to find this nugget 22 Mar 43 42-4494 Bell P-39L-1-BE Airacobra Ogilvie, Jack L . 346FS 350FG 12AF . Badly damaged in belly landing, Ain-el-Arba/ 1/2mi S, Algeria but was hoping for more info and hopefully a picture or 2. He said the name of his p47 was the spirit of Big D or maybe just Big D as he's from dallas tx. Any info or pix you guys can find would be awesome.

Jack was in the 345th fighter squadron of the 350th rather than the 346th. He had a number of P-39s and P-47s. His P-39 was "Big D". One of them had a pegasus on it, the other had Big D on the nose and a 13 on the door. The one with the pegasus lasted until it was given to the Italian Co-Beligerant air force when the 345h transitioned to the P-47s. The FB page WWII Devilhawks is my page. I have tried to post photos to this site with out any luck. What is the name of the document you found with Jack's crash? Is it a MACR, DOR, or Accident Report? something else? I will check the DOR (Daily Operational Report) of that day along with Squadron's daily diary written on that day. Also, Jack and I are in regular contact so I will ask him more about the event.
Great find on the P-39 belly landing! It is very helpful. Thanks for sharing it. I will get back to you with more information.
And Rick, thanks for letting me know about the request.

This is a fantastic thread, as is the one linked over to the ArmyAirForces forum... here's a question for those "in the know", would any of you happen to know the group's callsign at any point during 1944? I had a relative who flew B-25s with the 321st BG/446th BS, and the 57th Bomb Wing site has ALL of the daily reports for the entire 321st through it's history- which is no small undertaking, I'm sure you'll agree! Anyways, in many of those mission reports, they mention escort by this group or that, and the escort groups are only referred to by their callsigns. I'll go dig some of them up and post them here, but I've often wondered what groups flew escort for Fred's missions, and I have a suspicion the 350th was involved at some point, since they clearly flew missions with the 340th BG/487th BS (as per the pic with the B-25 earlier in the thread).
Thanks for your efforts folks, this is why I enjoy this site so much.

Cheers,
Lynn

From Keith,
The call signs for the 350th FG were
345th: Lifetime
346th : Minefield
347th: Midwood
Brazilian 1BFS : Jambock
Many variations depending on which flight and flight number.
