This is in fact not a Heinkel He 111, but a Spanish licence production CASA 2.111 b, note the cutouts for the exhaust stacks are in the upper part of the cowlings suitable for RR Merlins, not in the lower part, as it would be if it had the Jumo 211 engines. Though Auto & Technik Museum Sinsheim (and its Speyer branch) are a very good and versatile museum, paint schemes are known to be not always that correct.
Thanks for providing us with those "white" pics Mark Allen M. I always enjoy your posts, please keep up your good work, it is truly appreciated.

F4U/FG-1d Folks/Mark:

The FG-1d below FAS 201 is still one elusive mystery to solve. Some folks said the aircraft was fixed c. 1958 and then flown to El Salvador. Others said that it never made it.

p.s Plz verify the caption of this photo & the Buno of it. That Buno FG-1D is now at CT Museum. And yes it was one of poss 3 gull-grey aircraft that went S. of the border c. 1957. We believe is a poss 67XXX series. Maybe someone in the El Paso area may remember the aircraft.

I don't think that FG is the one in Connecticut. During restoration, the various layers of paint were still present and no "grey" was found. Just the post-FAS blue repaints, the "FAS" blue with its markings and the lastly, the original USN blue.

F4U Folks/FG-1D/Jerry:

Good day!

I agree & tks for the drawing again The previous BW of the FAS 201 is other than FG-1D Buno 92460 which you clearly show wearing the dark Navy blue scheme along the way. Some other folks said that the FAS 201 in El Paso, TX c. 1957 was replaced by another one. This may be poss according to a drawing in a book of U.S WW II aircraft by a guy named D. Mondey, pg 237 which shows a FG-1D FAS 201 at San Miguel base c. 1958. Unfortunately the author could not verify or remember the source of this drawing in c. 1982.

BTW, what ID Buno do the R/L flaps of your Buno 92460 (FAS 217) show in the mod id plates??

p.s For those of you modelers the canopy frame was painted bright canary yellow, same with the VHF antenna & the vertical stab. Love to see a color pic of the real samples!!

I believe the middle two photos are F4U-4's, chin scoop and .50's.
