Take heed of the guys talking about the gun ports.

The engine stuff might have some sort of impact somewhere on noises, but what he is asking about is purely the gun-port phenomenon. Hacker and I were studying that during the warbird show at OSH last summer and as noted by several people here, during high-g maneuvers the ones with simulated guns/ports made a distinctive "Corsair-like" howl, while the ones with soup-spoon coverings over the gun blisters made none. And it was apparent on pass after pass.

But it was only during pull-ups from the simulated strafing runs.
