At this stage it's all "maybe".. but the guy who owns a B model that flew with a friends unit in Vietnam may donate it so it can be restored as original for the surviving members of the unit as a flyer.....

The question I have is: It will need to be moved from Louisiana to near Los Angeles.. & thats the part I don't have a clue about....

Width is apparently 8' 7in so it shouldn't require a wide load permit.....?

How the heck do I go about this? Talk to truck companies for loan of a trailer and/or tractor unit? Tail boom is off the cabin so it isn't "full length" as it sits right now.

Any pointers (or loan of a C17) much appreciated.

Down in Louisiana they do a LOT of oilfield transportation, so you can always call a Hotshot Driver. Get the right one, and you can have anything delivered and they'll be quite knowledgeable of the process, but from the replies, it looks like all the knowledge you'll need is already talking to you.

You might try calling Buddy Chapman of Chapman Transportation here in Texas. He has made a living at hauling all kinds of aircraft all over the country. I'm sure he's hauled a Huey or two in the 30 years that he's been doing it. He brought our EA-3B Skywarrior aka Whale from Davis-Monthan to Fort Worth last year without a scratch. He's real easy to work with and reasonably priced. Any trucker with a B-17 on the side of his truck is ok with me! Here he is when he brought our CH-21 in. PM me for his phone number.

We're looking for Hueys from a particular unit in Vietnam (129th AHC) There's a bunch of them out there, including 15 (yes, 15) in various museums in the US or stuck on poles in parks etc... plus the restored one flying in the UK & ditto the one doing "Vietnam flight experience " tourists flights in CapeTown.
Not all 15 are painted as 129th birds.

I can email it to you We know there are about 50 survivors. In fact the Argentine Army is upgrading one this week to Huey II spec & they have another at their tech school. One of the guys working on that one will be sending me photos of the process.
NorthWest Helicopters in Olympia has one in their *stash*. Homeland Security has 2 of them. Another has just been rescued from NC Forestry & has gone to join the other hueys with the Huey 369 group in Indiana. Odd fact: the dust off Huey 369 was at the same base in Vietnam as the one they just got form the forestry guys ( Lane Army Heliport, An Son).
There's a few of their B models out there working for a living, including 2 in Montana someplace. 1 in Fresno, 1 in Tulare etc.

I just chased one all over Florida trying to catch up with where it is. 2 different Sheriffs Depts, Fish & Wildlife Commission... & then found out it's going to some Govt agency in Illinois, possibly for scrapping

When I was looking through various databases for 129th birds I found 74 Hueys listed to NWH.

We have a triple axle, gooseneck trailer and the rack that I have moved almost a dozen Hueys (most were "B"s but there were a couple of "F"s).
We removed the mast (maybe an hour) and installed the transmission top plate with the lifting eye and lifted it onto the trailer.

We have to locate a helicopter from the correct unit first, I have a list of *70 survivors from the 129th, but I know at least 3 of those have since crashed including a Cobra.

* originally thought it was closer to 50, took a closer look yesterday.

VFW Post 1008. On the fin it displays IL-NG, and below that 0-61130, with 130 on the nose.
