I was not kidding, the 47 was too far back most of the time, see here

http://globalaviationresource.com/v2/wp ... n_1171.jpgshould be behind the Hurricane, or is it some new version of a finger 4 ?
http://globalaviationresource.com/v2/wp ... medium.jpgThe P-47 is lower than the other aircraft (by design in a diamond formation). I think what you are seeing is akin to parallax error. If you looked from straight below or directly from the side, everyone would look to be exactly in the right place.
Maybe stretch out a coat hanger and put some paper airplanes on it if my explanation doesn't make sense, or look at a Blue Angels formation when they are maneuvering in a similar fashion.
P.S. The jets are all at the same altitude, the warbirds are staggered down.
They are not at the same altitude, each plane is staggered down from its lead. From the ground you see a finger 4, from the air you see this

The T-6s would put 50+ planes in formation at Oshkosh, with 3 or 4 practice flights, with pilots who fly together once a year. Hinton and the others fly together multiple times a year in different types of planes.
