B-17G Forward Fuselage on a low, slow cross country

The last time I saw anything almost as cool as that it was a Bf-108 on I-20.

I once passed a Corsair in a Mustang. Mind you, I as in a Ford Mustang on I-94 and the Corsair was a stripped fuselage on a trailer. That was some 20 years ago..always wondered whatever became of it.

I do believe that this nose, or part of it, was the one hanging in the bar in Greeley, Colorado.

It would be nice to see it fly again! Or serve beer!!!

It is the bar airplane but more importantly she is the bird that was used in all the old movies.you know which ones the good ones.she will be rebuilt into an f model as either piccadilly lilly or rosies riviters 100th bomb group.we are in the middle of the gret country of texas headed to the state of dallas.

We have arrived home for a day to two for some rest. Drove straight through from van horn texas to Hoscton Ga.What a ride.Will try to get a pic of the bird in front of my neighbors house.

I was under the impression that this tail would be going with what you were able to acquire Tom, http://aerovintage.com/b17news11.htm , scroll down to April 2011 update. Am I wrong to assume so or will we be seeing further details and I am just being Antsy . good luck with your project(s).

My understanding is that only the forward fuselage section is going to the Douglas group; the remainder of the amassed B-17 parts that are held by the group in Los Angeles (the parts that were going to be incorporated into a static display for the National World War II museum) are not part of the transfer. There is still an effort underway with the Los Angeles group to pull together a B-17 for eventual static display and the aft fuselage from 42-30861 (the one mentioned in the April 2011 update quoted) will stay with that group. Confusing with mix and match B-17 sections.

Hi Travis, I would like to clear up one little issue and that is these are not 'MY" projects. I am just a guy that went to fetch'em is all. What a blast it was as well. On the tail issue we didn't need it as the guys (Chuck) were building one already and now will be building two of them to airworthy with non staggered waist and stinger tail guns for both.

well thanks for clearing that up and that seemed like a once in a life time trip! I am glad that you shared it with us on here and I have to say I have always been a huge fan of the look of the stinger tails

You have fine taste in airplanes sir.The only thing better IMO would be a shark fin B-17.
