Goldie Hawn before 'Laugh-in'? You tube Paul Revere and the Raiders 'Kicks' ( HQ) she's the go-go dancer on the far right. PR&R were a Northwest rock group in the mid 60's who wound up on Dick Clarks 'Where the action is'. A real show band and good music too!

Remember them well! I had a very "cool" and "hip" 5th grade English teacher who wanted us to learn some of the more politically "relevant" songs of the time (1971-1972) and she taught us all of the lyrics to their "Cherokee Nation" as well as Dion's "Abraham, Martin, & John"

And although I remember (barely!) the original run of Rowan & Martin's Laugh-In, I also fondly remember when it was shown years later in syndication on Comedy Central. Maybe it's just my own age showing, but I always thought that it was both timeless and dated at the same time - if that's possible. Guess that means that it was simply very good comedy.

Thanks for those memories - and this unusally free-spirited thread!

Speaking of which, in order to get a little more back on track...

Also love - and always looking out for - "Strategic Air Command" but wish they had done without some of the back story. Never really liked June Allyson (too whiny!) and never really bought a somewhat older Jimmy Stewart as a "rookie" baseball pitcher or new dad.

Another similar offering from about that same time period (maybe just a tad later since according to IMDB it came out in 1964) was "Flight from Ashiya" starring Yul Brenner and Richard Widmark. It too had a bit too much soap-opera melodrama, especially in the flashbacks, but I just can't get enough of the SAR Albatrosses!

For some reason, the studio paired Stewart off with Allyson about 347 times, I'm surprised she didn't turn up in Spirit of St. Louis.
Richard Widmark was also a pilot in a movie can't recall the name of, where he flew a privately owned G-73.

Slattery's Hurricane (1949)

In addition to the Grumman Mallard, there were babes - Linda Darnell and Veronica Lake!
And a Navy Privateer hurricane hunter as I recall...

Linda Darnell who played Chihuahua in 'My darling Clemintine' had a life long fear of fire and ironically died in a house fire in 1965.

Veronica Lake died 7/7/73 of hepatitus and renal failure due to alcoholism.

She died in my hometown of Glenview, IL in a housing development across the street from the McDonald's we went to. Story was it was tax time and she was trying to save the $1500 cash she had just taken out to pay her taxes. When the firemen pulled her out she was badly burned and cursing a blue streak! She died in the hospital shortly afterward.

Even so, they were still "babes" in their day.

I remember Linda Darnell mostly from Tyrone Power's "The Mark of Zorro" from 1940.

I've always loved those kinds of "outlaw" hero stories - just like Robin Hood too - of which Disney's animated version was the all-time best, but of course Errol Flynn's version was the next best! pop2
