That badboy has enough grunt to be turned into a gangstamp. For those of you who dont know what that is its a machine that has spade dies and is capable of hitting 7 to 10 1/8 rivets at a go and so on.They were big during the war for fast tracking riveting. The first machine was designed by a guy that worked for Curtiss during the war.Management said it wouldnt work around curved sides of fuselages and he proved them wrong.Look at an unrestored p-40 on the inside and look at the tails along a stringer at how uniform they are. They are consistantly uniform with no mistakes.Thats a gangstamp finish. He either held a patent or sold the idea to a company called General tool and machine IIRC.By late 42 everybody used the machine and it sped up production enormously.I have only seen one and it was on ebay 4 years ago.I am still looking for one so if you see one please let me know.
