Neil Armstrong was a hero to me as well. I have had the great fortune to meet a number of famous aviators from time to time and I had truly hoped that one day I would be able to shake his hand.

As a citizen, I respect what he did for our nation, how he helped advance science, and our understanding of the world around us.

As a pilot, I respect his capabilities all the way from Navy combat in Korea, test flying the X-15 (among many), righting a tumbling Gemini capsule, the flying bedstead, calmly directing the landing of Apollo 11, to the glider he skillfully flew for fun as a retiree.

As a man, I respect his sense of duty, work ethic, professionalism, and sense of humility. They just don't make 'em like that anymore.

Blue skies, tailwinds, and balanced thrusters!

Godspeed Neil Armstrong.

Ken

The White House has declared that the U.S. Flag will be lowered to Half Staff on all Gov't facilities on the day of his interment. There is also talk of a National Memorial Service...

"When I once started to ask Neil Armstrong what his all-time favorite aircraft was, he interrupted me in mid-sentence with an animated, simple, but emphatic 'Bearcat!' How about the X-15 or the Lunar Excursion Module? 'Bearcat!"" - Jeff Ethell, Flight magazine, Fall 1986.
