I want this guy to paint a jacket for me. I've been saving my pennies and I'm almost there. I've got the Varga picked and a name idea. I need to do a little research regarding jacket details to add. It will be for a B-17, but not group specific, and I need to work on a timeline for it. I want it to have a story, because it will be a tribute in a way for those who didn't return, so it will not have 25 mission markers.

Thats a cool concept. Would be a good idea to try and have a mockup designed before you send it off to the painter. The more guides you can give a designer/painter the better. If I were ever in a position to drop some money like that, I'd have to do a jacket for my grandfather. BUT he was in the Pacific and wore a B-10 jacket so Im not sure how that would look on a light weight (non leather) jacket like that. I'd still like to have a heavy standard A2 jacket for these cold New England winters we get here.

I agree some kind of mockup is needed. I've been gathering pictures from online and books. I was thinking once I have a good idea of what I want, go to a tattoo shop and ask if they can put the pictures to paper and then lay it out on the jacket.

I didn't add any nose art, but this is good enough for me. It's in tribute to my granduncle's B-29. I'm not sure if he had one, but this is my tribute to him and the rest of the men he served with. It's the 20th AF patch and a reproduction of the squadron patch.

My good friend and dads favorite pilot, the late Jim "Two Gun" Brown.. Jim flew over 100 missions.. said he ran out of paint before he could paint them all..

I need to scan some shots, I use to paint jackets and did a lot of them until i got tired of doing it for people.
I also need to get a shot of the lining of my 91st BG-marked A-2 (still haven't out nose art on it yet), which is signed by Bob Morgan (and I have a photo of him signing it, too)...

At the risk of sounding cruel, I find this ironic because what is depcited on this jacket is about all that remains on that aircraft today...

So the jacket is from my lovely bride but the patches were painted by my Pop before he passed. I found out he gave the original to a stick at Luke who was in the 33rd before its demise. I'm ok with that. Dad was in the 60th FS "Fighting Crows" of the 33rd FG CBI 44 & 45. Miss ya Pops!

very nice tributes SD and PBYcat
And I love the original photos along with the original owner... Hemiman

And my FIRST B-17 flight was in Liberty Belle (ironically ;-) and you DO have a treasure there p51...

I am conflicted between building a tribute to my Dad's unit- the 384th BG 547th Sqn.

OR getting a TEXAS RAIDERS jacket done up. Heck- I might as well do BOTH.
