Warbird Information Exchange

In the late 1990s, there was a green C-130 fuselage on one of the numerous trails about a half mile south of the Camp Bullis airfield. I remember it being extremely hard to see from the air -- my buddy and I used to compete to see who could spot it first from my Citabria from 500 feet AGL. I just looked around using the Google Earth history view, but couldn't locate it.

Within about 500 yards of this was what I believe was a CH-53 fuselage. It doesn't seem to be there anymore, either.

The other derelict airplanes at Camp Bullis at the time were all at the airfield -- three F-101s and three F-105s in two facing rows. Visited that chapel several times...

Thanks for the pix, Ryan. I ended up having another SAT out-n-back last week and saw the Four Fans of Freedom again, just as you photographed her.

A google search of that tail number turns up a great mix of photos, back to SEA camo days, Euro1 camo and some as recent as 2008. Hope her new mission allows her to continue to serve with honor - I believe I read that's a medical training compound where I suspect they will practice rigging for litters and other med equipment, load, and unload patients, simulate emergencies, etc.

Came across this forum doing a Google search. So, I signed up and here is post #1.
The fuselage in the picture identified as GC-130B 58-0727 was assigned to the 136 Tactical Airlift Wing stationed at NAS Dallas until about 1986 (if my memory serves me correctly) when the "B" models were replaced with new "H2's."

If you can't find a 'something' eyeball reported by somebody on GOOGLE EARTH, look at the bottom border of the frame, photos are updated approximately every two years except for barren areas that may not get a new photo pass for 4 or 5 years since very few folks are really interested in how much the creosote bushes have grown in two years-

As of yesterday morning an additional C-130 fuselage/airframe was 'towed' from Lackland AFB to Camp Bullis. Saw it on the local evening news with a short film/video clip. Unable to see a serial number on the video. That's all I know for now. Keep Googleing!

I use to work on 70-1264 at Rhein-Main AB, Germany in 1991-1994. It was a good flyer. Nice to see it miss the axe at the boneyard. I might have a photo of it back in Euro I camo around here somewhere. I will post if I can find it.

Will be 64-0510 I think, an ex Puerto Rico ANG bird.
