That's what volunteers are for! There is never a shortage of people willing to take the controls for a while during a cross-country. Yes, the controls are heavy and it requires a lot of focus until one gains experience, but it's not like lifting weights or something (my experience is with the B-17). Bad weather is generally avoided with these precious warbirds. I think the longest leg I saw during my time at LSFM was about 5 hours from Ft. Pope, NC to Galveston. That was the exception.

Transit flights can be a little longer than 2-3 hrs. Lil's flight from Addison to Andrews in May was 6 hrs 9 min. A long flight for a bunch of us gentlemen over 60. Lil did fine. Did not hear any complaints from the guys up front concerning not having auto-pilot.
