Isn't #5017 a Ki-61-II-KAI, and thus mounted a Ha-140 (a copy of the DB-605)?

Ahhh shoot! I blew it! ... Tried to clean up my photobucket account and screwed the pooch. Unfortunately many of my recent photo posts are gone too. Learned a new one today.

Great thread. Lucky for us the Japanese metallurgy was not so good or that license built motor could have really spelled trouble.

Engine reliability issues and weightof the engine package were contributing factors in the development of the Ki-100 using the Kinsei radial engine

Thx Mike for the last few photos. Love the Tony in the photo with the Corsairs in the background. Looks to be an interesting color scheme as well. The Tony is by far my favorite shape of all the Japanese aircraft of WW2
