Veering gradually back on topic...

I remember seeing a photo in a magazine years ago of the last B-32 parked on the (Davis Monthan?) ramp around 1950 or so. The plane had been set aside for the planned USAF Museum, but supposedly the base commander got tired of looking at it and ordered it scrapped.

Another rare bird that survived until around 1950 or so was the Nakajima G8N Renzan ("Rita") heavy bomber. One of the prototypes was brought back to the US by ship for testing. It was reassembled and flown to Patterson Field in Ohio, where it was parked and more or less abandoned, then eventually scrapped. This is a pic from an old "Airpower" article, taken at Patterson sometime in the late 40s. Maybe not the last photo of it ever taken, but close.

The P-48 was a concept only, no mockup was ever built as far as I know.....
