There’s really no difference between this forum and almost any other I’ve ever been on. I find it funny how in every forum, people think this only goes in there and nowhere else. I’m reminded of an explanation of arguing online I read years ago. That goes along the lines of, “Arguing online is like arguing with a developmentally disabled person; even if you win, what have you really won?” Not very PC and I cleaned it up a little.
I disagree with a lot of what I read here. If I’m in a thread and feel there are people I don’t agree with, I move on. I’m dropped myself from other forums in the past because I’d had enough childishness and felt those forums were no longer worth my time. Others I just quit going to because the same topics went on and on, or it became a ghost town.
I like WW2 airplanes and see lots of them at shows. I used to spend time with the Collings folks when I lived in Florida and now volunteer at an annual airshow where I live in the Pacific NW. That’s really the limit of my involvement in the world of old war planes. So like the old folks used to say, I don’t have that big a dog in most of these fights. So therefore, I stay out of almost all of them.
As for the “I’ve had enough and now I must leave you all in the lurch without my awesomeness” messages, yeah, those are downright nuts. Name me ANY once person who’s passing had tremendous detrimental effect on the warbird world and I’ll show you the same person as simply a person who’s passing is mourned and people will move on with their lives. There is no one person that the movement cannot live without. Say you’re leaving with a flourish of drama from an internet forum? I can’t help but be reminded of Powers Boothe’s reply in the movie, “Tombstone” when Wyatt Earp says they’re leaving and that it’s over. You expect Boothe to give some kind of speech, but instead he just looks up and says…

Bye.”

Yeah, as mainly a lurker, I certainly agree with the complaints. The most insane complaint I see on here is that of paint schemes. Once I saw that nonsense I decided that I need to stay away from here before I start to rant. Such a shame, too.

Ploesti...ya might want to tone it down just a bit. Scott (the owner of this site) seems to be OK with us disagreeing on things, so long as we keep it civil and do not resort to personal attacks. There are many former members of this site who could not maintain a sense of civility and were shown the door. Try to maintain your bearings.

Tone it down my ass ... you don't like it don't read it. And I didn't personally attack anyone. So don't tell me to turn it down. If you have a problem there's a PM you can send. I'd be happy to chat with you there.

You need to pull your head in mate, too much of the bad ass loud mouth ever since you have shown up on this site. There's been plenty of similar types come and go over the years, the rest of us have figured it out.

Ploesti,

Consider this an official "cool it down, please" request. Go back and re-read what Scott wrote earlier in the thread.

I'd suggest also re-reading the forum rules.

In light of recent personal attacks and insults, user "ploesti" has received a 1 month ban.

Just my IMHO,

Once again what makes talking about paint schemes that bad? This is a warbird forum. Last I checked warbirds are historical items. Not that I really care as long as the plane is loved. But I really get a bit offended with people acting like it's not important to represent an aircraft with a story and a person that was envolved with it correctly. I look forward to many of the very accurate warbirds coming out of restoration shops. I will still look forward to seeing warbirds fly that might not be in 100% true markings. But the latter will always be a bit generic to me.

Isn't it funny how people think they're John Wayne when they think they'll never meet the person at the other end of an internet argument? Maybe pathetic is a better word.
I once had a run-in with someone who threatened me on a internet forum. I found he was at an event I was at, which I had no clue of ahead of time. I came up to him, expecting someone about my age and was going to carve my initials into him somewhere. Turns out the guy was a short, beanpole 20-year old who you just know never kissed a girl in his life. I was twice his size (and I don't mean gut, either). I walked up, introduced myself politely by my real name and internet handle. You could see the look of, "Oh [poop]" in his eyes when he realized who he was talking to. Then I stepped back and said, "Okay, you said you were going to kick my butt. I'll even give you the first punch, but you're not walking away without a fight, sweetpea." He lost control of his bodily functions while his friends laughed at him. I stepped close and said softly, "You never know how crazy or determined someone at the other end of a keyboard can really be. This was just a coincidence I ran into you here. Don't you EVER threaten anyone online again. Play nice, or I swear I'll see to it personally that someone will make good on your offer. The only reason I didn't beat the [poop] out of you right now is that I'm former Army, twice your age and size, and well trained. That wouldn't be right." He literally ran to his car and left. His pals told me he was asking for what I did for a while and they doubted he'd be like that again.
Another time on a re-enacting forum, someone equally became jerky. He didn't realize I had family very close to where they do events. He was PM'ing threats and all kinds of insanity. I asked for their event schedule and advised I'd be happy to bring this up in person that spring. I found out later he asked someone who knew both of us and realized I wasn't bluffing about the proximity. It's amazing, but you know, I never heard from him again. Odd, huh?
