Seems like a big deal over not such a big deal. If you are allowed to be on the airport, a call to the airport management should provide you the access or the reason you no longer have the access. Work it out there...not with an airport employee who may or may not have the authority to grant access to the airport. Of course, the airport employee could have made the process easier by suggesting the same. I go on and off ramps all the time and every once in a while some guy tries to piggyback onto the ramp and then he gets very upset when you tell him he can't. Having a pilot's license does not automatically grant access to airports unless you are coming in from the air side, and then you are still limited.

That kind of "security theater" is so dumb, but so happening these days. Anyone that's nice enough to listen to someone tell them not to come in is likely not part of the "problem."

I just told I'm here with Cpt. Helmet. Its worked the last two days...... ;-/

The previous airport wasn't 5C1... and BTW, Capt. Helmet is pretty well armed! :-D It's been fun having you around.

So are C-140A's...... ;-0)

Glad you got it worked out, O2.

The manager is right--the guy screwed up. If you are in possession of a valid SIDA, secure area, or AOA badge, he should have been more helpful at the very least. I've had a few of those instances (as a manager--not as the guy denying entrance) that I've had to clear up.

Prior information is correct, you cannot piggyback off of someone into a sterile area, but you can share necessary information (changed gate codes) with someone who has gone through all the background checks, hoops, blood tests, IQ tests... etc. It's been my experience that gate codes get changed by FBOs when they get rid of somebody, in which case you (with valid ID) are not the issue.

EDIT: I should also add that employees, be they from the Executive Director down to the Janitor, are required to challenge anyone trying to seek access to sterile areas without valid ID OR those in sterile areas who do not have valid ID displayed. In that case, the guy in question should have pointed you to someone who could help you as opposed to accusing you of getting your license off the 'Net

This is in a slightly different context but I was told that for the first time ever, there will be a massive TSA presence at Wing Over Houston airshow. Apparently the word is also out that the FAA will have a much heavier presence in light of the Reno accident.

I guess the TSA could have stopped the Reno disaster from happening.
None of the pilots would have made it to there A/C as they would have been held up in lines being molested.

Me thinks the massive FAA presence at air shows is the need for government employees to fill their work hours before their budget expires. For example, at the Cleveland air show 9 FAA inspectors for 5 civilian performers. At Memphis, 20+ FAA for under 10 civilian performers. The current federal budget is due to expire this Monday. I think TSA is not affected by that, however.
