A quote from Martin Niemöller..... You can see it over the door way at the exit of the Holocaust Memorial Museum in Washington DC......

The easiest way to run the FAA is, if you don't have mess with those pesky airplanes ! If you don't let them fly, then no risk of a crash,....right ?

I had a representative from the local FSDO pretty much make that statement in our shop. He said that if it was up to him he wouldn't let anything less than 30pax fly.

In last month's Flying, ex-FAA'er Martha Lunkin said the Cincinatti FAA office has tripled it's inspector force...for 20-30 to 80+.
All that and more....Coming soon to a hangar near you!

There is an issue with an FAA guy here...about approaches & touch & goes...it has evryone's head shaking.
Local pilots have gone to other FAA officers and scoped out their opinion and they say the local guy is wrong too.

Speaking of risk adverse organizations...I was at a USAF base and the support group commander (the "base" commander...not to be confused with the operational wing commander) closed the base flying club because he was afraid of a crash (which would ultimately maybe, possibly, sort of)...make him look bad.

That's nothing.

You should see the types of decisions that are being made in combat zones while conducting actual combat flying operations.

I guess I am missing what we should do here P51Mstg - just walk away and kiss flying jets goodbye? I am a non-pilot - diabetic since childhood - but it seems to me if nothing is done then exactly what they want to happen will happen. Maybe even if we as a community put up a stink they will do it anyway. But at least I will have earned the right to complain about it :D

I fail to see how helping inform a senator/representative is a bad thing. True they worry about elections but uninformed person would not think twice about rubber stamping action. An informed person might raise the yellow flag and make a difference. Just because something bad MIGHT happen is a lame excuse. This reminds me of the local Harley MDA ride which raises a lot of $ annually for a good cause. They are sponsored by an insurance agency and one idiot didn't wear a helmet and got in a wreck on the ride (actually did happen with the press right there!) and got a few others hurt with him. Something might always happen - remember Bilbo Baggins said (paraphrased) "stepping out of your front door is dangerous business!"

Personally I think that the F-4 example is a bit extreme. It is a far bigger and more complex jet than the A-4, T-33, F-86 or L-39 is. The CF group can have one because they have the resources to maintain it. It is all the other owners of other tyoes that I worry for. They are great, responsible and intelligent people who for the greatest part share thier love of the aircraft with everybody. I have never once felt like it was a exclusive club or "fraternity". I have met photographers who were ten times worse!

I don't intend to start anything here but, hello - doing nothing is as good as agreeing to it

It appears that someone has figured out that if you make something overly complex and convoluted, 99+% of those being affected will toss up their hands and just walk away in frustration 'Objective Met, they gave up'
As far as talking to your elected representative, his/her reaction will hinge a great deal on who's funneling money to them balanced off against one cheezed off voter. If everyone bombards a Senator's office with a common complaint, they count all the complaints as ONE (1) only gripe, never mind the 250,000 individual gripes sent in. Perhaps it would help if they wore sponsors patches like race car drivers so you'd know who was buying their interest.

Tom P. Been on the road a few days... Was at your hangar in Wendover today. Looks nice with paint. Painting that tin is tough too....

So... YES you guys need to do something about it. Going about it by getting a new President will not help, bringing someone to a JET BLAST will help little (especially since they don't know you nor really know anything about jets).... You need to get a Congressman or better yet a Senator to talk to the FAA....... I'm sure in all the guys that own jets a COUPLE know Senators. I know I used to know 3 Senators and 3 Congressmen... Thats the key here. They really need to know what they are talking about, a lot of prep on the jet side. So they can find out what the REAL PLAN from the FAA is. It may be bad and it may not. If its not they need to tell the locals what their marching orders are.

Its a real involved process which requires a lot of work. One of the problems always seems to be the people with the actual contacts have to many other things to do (run business and make money) to really persue the jet issue. Always happy to chat... PM me or better yet email me TNMark@Me.Com...
