I'm with you there James. It's a vicious cycle. Some good posters get attacked, or annoyed, then they leave. I find less and less interesting content here. We need quantity as well as quality, because some of us who can contribute quality are not able to do so on a non-stop sustained rate. We have a definite "season" down here where there is activity, and other times of the year there is very little going on.

Is this going to turn into another one of those threads? The internet is full of aholes. Nothing we can do to change that. At least one recent poster was taken care of by his chain of command, but we can't expect that in every case. Personally I have found that dogging the jerks feels good, but draws the ire of the mods, which isn't the desired effect. Better just to make sure that posters we like are helped to feel welcome and wanted and to ignore the buttheads.

I sincerely hope that you are 100% mistaken.

Although my contributions are rare and fewer nowadays, and in spite of all the doings of the usual morons that populate the web, what Scott is doing with the WIX, is not only commendable, but also deserving of support, and this is one of the reasons why, after a self-imposed exile, I found my way back here.

I hope that Brad will do the same. Few people I know, that can convey feeling and emotion, the way that Brad does when he writes.

His experiences, his knowledge and his willingness to share with us, make me a tad better after reading them.

Now, more than ever: NOLO ILLEGITIMI CARBORUNDUM.

Actually, wasn't the XB-39 a B-29 with different powerplants? You could argue that Fifi is some kind of B-39

Wow! I never heard of that Fouga23! Thanks for the info! Here's what Wikipedia says:

"The Boeing XB-39 Superfortress was a United States prototype bomber aircraft, a single example of the B-29 Superfortress converted to fly with alternative powerplants. It was intended to demonstrate that the B-29 could still be put into service even if the first choice of engine, the air-cooled Wright R-3350 radial engine, ran into development or production difficulties."

So yeah, I guess we should start calling FIFI the B-39 now!

Actually the YB-29J (M) (M for modified)

I always appreciated Brad's posts. With Brad and Randy it is kind of neat to stay plugged in with today's USAF. I also enjoy Vlado, Jim Beasley, Rich, etc. and others' posts that give us insight into flying/maintaining today's warbirds. I could care less that somebody painted their plane however they wanted. I'd rather see a bright purple warbird flown reguarly than a 'perfect' restoration hidden away in a hangar somewhere. I'm just greatful to see it and learn about it.

All the other BS on this sight is just a PIA, true. But it's really cool to see the inner workings of a Griffon Spitfire, pictures from inside a C-17 looking out a C-47/Caribou/etc, and I still miss Gary's posts with his insight, humor, and talent dearly.

It's easy to ignore the "crap" threads. When I see that a thread has begun a descent into "crap-ism"*, I just stop reading that thread and move on to something else. Try it, folks. It really works.
