i actually threw my hat in the ring for that job last year but they werent hiring then,interesting, i have nearly 8k in the old girl,all piston though,and 0 NVG time, NVGs would have been nice to have on many a dark claggy night looking for a runway back in my jurassic days,Godspeed whoever mans that cockpit in the 'stans.

Not really all that unusual. Plenty of contractors flying N-reg airplanes in combat zones supporting the fight.
L3, Dynamic, Evergreen, Avenge, etc...all actively hiring people for these types of jobs (although not in the Basler, but many types that civilian pilots will have experience in, like King Airs, Dash 7/8, Metroliner, etc).
Pay is decent to above average, although there's a lot of time away from home, somewhat austere living conditions, and of course the threat of living and flying in a combat zone (and being in a very unique status as far as being a non-combatant).
