An earlier poster said something about the various Betty wrecks not being recovered... seems to me that at least one was recovered from the Solomons a year or two ago when several other Japanese wrecks were removed with the permission of the government there. I'm sure someone here knows their destination, but it makes me think that there would be the potential for that one to be used as a pretty nice pattern... and don't forget the one in California in the diorama setting (Planes of Fame?)
Other than the POF Betty, I haven't heard of any confirmed recoveries of large, multi-engine Japanese aircraft (if another has been recovered, that's fantastic.) But the Japanese Army and Navy Air Forces flew more than just Bettys. I've seen photos of Nell, Sally, and Helen wrecks that are conceivably recoverable and restorable, although I'm not sure how recently they were taken. Even if not restored to flying condition, it would be nice to see a Nell or Sally in a museum, rather than rotting in a jungle. Of course, in addition to the various legal red tape involved, such a project would also require a considerable amount of cash..and other than Harada-San, I don't know of anyone who's that passionate about WWII Japanese aircraft.
