Season two is well underway now (and obviously all done shooting). There's quite a different cast of personnel as the aviation industry moves people along pretty quickly up north.

So far it's another good season.

Peace,

David

Seems like the place to find C-97's is the Great White North since there's also one in Unalakleet on Flying Wild, and until something happened to it (crash I seem to recall) Boeing was surprised to find somebody was still operating a 377 STRATOLINER as a fish hauler. no wonder Salmon is so friggin' expensive!

The C-97 was shown again on tonight's episode. Did some checking, found it was a G model N4580Q that caught fire while offloading fuel and written off as damaged beyond repair in 1989.

For those don't have access to this series, a short 10-minute sampler was on CBC.TV last night.

It might work where you live: http://www.cbc.ca/video/#/Shows/The_Ric ... 1797914516

The former Spirit of Waco A-26 flew supplies in after Katrina, as well.

I saw the C-97, also liked the episode where the ERA guys daughter said she was freezing, didn't like the cold, and figured she was the " worst Eskimo ever " !

I saw it in the first episode and wondered about it. I thought it may have been a SAC relic or someone towed it up there as a storage building..:)

I think we're talking about two different shows here, guys. The Alaska show, "Flying Wild Alaska", with the C-97 fuselage is about a company called "Era" (I think), and the Canadian show about Buffalo Airways is called "Ice pilots".

It was announced today that starting in May, Nat. Geo. will start airing Ice Pilots NWT Season 1 in the US! 8) I'm sure that also means you will be able to by the DVDs domestically as well.

Wondering if anyone knows the AF SN of N4580Q, that caught fire while offloading fuel. Also more info on the 97, not 377, fish hauler. Her last year in AK, was 95, AF SN was 52-2718, was a G, conv to L with J-47s replacing the drop tanks, conv back to cargo. Now belongs to the Berlin Airlift Association and repainted to look like the 97 used in the later stages of the Berlin Airlift. Also a little more C-97 info. AF KC-97G, SN 52-2698, was the largest recip converted to a fire bomber, and she was based in AK.
