Having been in that dilemma recently ourselves, the GCW sends a HANG IN THERE to the crew working FIFI.

Gulf Coast Wing elected to make our first flight a little less of a publicity event and 20-20 hindsight says we should have had the full court PRESS out there. But we could ONLY know that after the flight was a sucess.
(And NO we did not untertake it without EVERY expectation that it would be.)

Conversely, one never knows until after rotation and there is air between the tires and the runway that some "gotcha" is going to getcha!

Not to diminish ALL the contributors to the FIFI project... Dave and Call me Al and Everybody I can't even list, but when the time is right...

Just whatever you do, please DO NOT attempt to taxi FiFi with a hot apu in the back that's being gravity-fed gasoline from a 5-gallon can suspended above it.

Please?

I only remember fifi coming to massachusetts one time when i was little. Before she was grounded. Never seems to come up this way, even when it was in the air. I thought there was another b-29 going to the air too????

Minor hiccup, but that's why you don't wave flags until you've practised the unfurl! At least Fifi was fit (we presume) it was just the ticket that was missing.

Which is why you can schedule a big hoopla 'Official first flight' soon after the real thing and any de-bug flights are out of the way. Lay on food, hoopla, speeches and widget-twang is unlikely to be of interest, or worse - media report just because you invited them.

Seconded. It's a hard legacy to carry, but I'm sure they're doing it for themselves, too.

Gee, GP & Garth,
Take it easy, eh? Minor amusement (or not), not worth a fight.

The forum search function is your friend - Look up the aircraft called 'Doc'. The other theoretical potential contender is Kermit's, I suppose.

Didn't come to Europe either, but I know how to get to see it. ;) If you want it to 'come up this way', it's just a question of offering enough sponsorship.

i was very excited this morning., for some reason.., then I heard that the flight test is being postponed..,apparently someone released this event to the press without the CAF having an Airworthiness Certificate in their hands for FIFI!

WOW.., I would be out of a job in my line of work if I F'd that one up!
