Even on poor computer speakers it sounds impressively different... At the start you think, OK, yeah, another big engine, then there's the hollow howl at power. Chills!

C'mon Kermit, Rich & I are telling you it'll be worth it.

How difficult an undertaking would it be to bring a Napier Sabre back to life? I can imagine it'd be a particularly "high maintenance" powerplant if one ever turned over again.

Maybe Mr. Weeks should get in touch with these guys.

How do you say "high-jacked" ?

Yep, still approaching the Sabre issue bass ackwards. Napier Sabre knowledgeable tekkies gotta be
rarer than...well, almost rarer than running Sabres.

If they'd have started 20 or 30 years ago they might have had one running by now. I've
wondered why someone hasn't tackled one of the marine or tank engines just to get familiar
with the workings of the beast.

Kinda on topic. We went from ghosts to raising the dead...

Maybe it is the ghost of an angry Tempest Pilot (whose Sabre packed it in on take-off) peeking around the waist-window of the B17.

There... got it back on track.

SPANNER the ever helpful :drinkers:

"high-jacked"

The photo is obviously faked... a ghost from the '40's would apppear in black & white.

It's a phenomenal undertaking and quite a brave thing to throw your money into - restoring a very powerful engine that was tricky to master/look after during its heyday. At least he's keeping his options open by restoring the airframe etc to airworthy standards before deciding whether or not to make the ultimate leap so to speak.

Although i do believe in ghosts and watch some of those shows, i don't really think this is a ghost. Just a reflection that is bouncing around alot of metal and plexi glass. And if that's a mae west, that's one very brand new super yellow one. Not something thats 65 years old

As Dan pointed out, the airframe is being done at Booker, but I don't think there is actually anyone that can overhaul a Sabre...... :D

However, IIRC from the article that first appeared in an issue of WWW many years ago on this project, Ricardo were the ones mentioned that were investigating the possibility of overhauling Kermits Sabre engine(s)..... but that was obviously a LONG time ago, and no doubt things may well have changed since then. :?
