I'd love to go to that show, in fact had loosely planned to before Jerry's Mosquito was delayed, so I'll have to save Wanaka for the future. I have too many miles on my Camry to make the trip now anyway...

Well, the first one pretty much disassembled itself, right?

I think that this is a good thing for the CAF and warbird fans. Giving the chance to let some people that may have never seen a Zero get up close and peronal. Also can get the CAF name out a bit and maybe help the other projects along. Considering that you don't have to take it apart makes it even more of a win win.

BDK is that the Diermert one you are talking about that is at Pearl Harbor now?

My dad was in charge of the restoration of this Zero when it was rebuilt in Santa Monica up to the point when the "powers to be" decided to ship the project to Russia for completion, my dad with the help of Pete Firkins and a few other people completely restored the tail of the Zero, here are some pictures from the project for my collection.

Yeah, last time I saw it at Camarillo it was serously disassembled. A bunch of pop rivets must have fallen out!

Of course I also have direct knowledge of the Val now at POF.

Wow. Amazing. Is it true it had fence posts for axles? I feel the need to watch the defender.

If I remember correctly, I believe they were made out of 1 1/4" galvanized water pipe!

cg51,

I am assuming the pictures you posted of the tailcone rebuild are of the flying CAF Zero currently based at Camarillo. If so would you mind if I posted them on our Wing's website under the Zero's page - http://www.cafsocal.com

Thanks,
