This shot was taken about a month ago at one of American Aero/ Timeless Wheels and Wings Saturday events.

Gary and the folks there did another excellent job.
It really looked great and I look forward to seeing it in flight!

Why is it impossible to see a natural aluminium P-51 looking like it was in the forties ?
To say the truth, über-glossy WWII aircrafts look rather like rich dentists toys than war combat planes.

One would think it's because it's thier money, thier aircraft and how they want it?

Gary, thanks for the info. I have known Elliot for many years, although not well. I have watched him fly and flown beside him. He's certainly in the top eschlon of warbird pilots.

ChrisDNT wrote:More seriously, it's a little bit sorry that US warbirds are almost never painted with the same historic care like the British warbirds.

For instance, if I had to prepare some aviation sequences for a WWII movie featuring some Mustangs, I could only think to two or three P-51's which would look like WWII-era aircrafts.

Not to make this an international incident. But name me two of three P-51s that are like Upupa Epops, Little Rebel, Geraldine, HJGB, Daddys Girl, Cripes a Mighty, Sweet and Lovely, Princess Elizabeth, etc that ya'll have? Yes, there are a lot more mustangs in the US, but to make an over generalization saying we don't take "historic care" of our aircraft is incorrect. And if your struggling to find mustangs that could outwardly represent a WWII bird here in America, think harder... you'll find em.

Does anyone know which unit markings this Mustang is painted to represent? Was it for a specific pilot, or just a generic scheme?

Cheers,
Richard
