This is the place where the majority of the warbird (aircraft that have survived military service) discussions will take place. Specialized forums may be added in the new future

Yes, there was a P-38 in one scene for several happy seconds.
Ah, yes. . . the barren, dry terrain and majestic mountains of Delaware! I somehow managed to miss all of that in the 15 years that I lived just down the road from New Castle County Airport (KILG).
The airport actually was an air base in WW2 and beyond, was home to the 4th Fighter Interceptor Group immediately before they deployed to Korea, and is currently the home of the 466th Tactical Airlift Wing, DE ANG, a long-time C-130 unit. The 466th guys 'n gals have an F-86H that is sometimes on display at the base, but is usually kept in a hangar. It's on its gear and can be towed, but it's not a flyer.
It was neat to see all of the warbirds on TV, especially the P-59. I liked the black and white scenes. They took a few liberties with the facts regarding the aircraft, but we must keep in mind that 99 percent of the viewers wouldn't know the difference. Yeah, they could have shot some scenes at Fantasy of Flight to get real video of the B-26 Marauder. Yeah, they could have picked a more believable way to sabotage a P-51 to make it crash 35 miles after takeoff. Yeah, they could have figured out how to get rid of the mountains in the background of the "Delaware" scenes. Everyone who lives anywhere in the Mid Atlantic area, or has ever passed through the area, was probably laughing at that. Still, I'm glad I watched! For the entertainment value, it was a good way to spend an hour. I was already in a good mood after my Eagles stomped the daylights out of the Giants. . .
Cheers,

My Tivo malfunctioned. I was pissed!!!
I saw the preview, and according to my wife, if there was ever an episode of that show I needed to see, it was that one! She's always on me for being obsessed with the '40s. Who, me? Hahaha!

At least they didn't try to pass off the F-86 for the P-59!!!

The Airacomet scene was shot in the new P-38 hangar. If you looked closely through the open doors, you could see one of the Mig 15's that sit just outside the hangar.
I like how they covered up all the nose art as well.

Not the best quality, but I did find this online.

I can already see in the first few seconds, that I'll have to try hard not to look at the markings and focus on all the pretty WASPs.
EDIT: The other link turned into a stupid survey maze with no way to get through it to unlock the video. The one there now works great and looks great too.

I was really suprised to see the WASP's hanging out with the guys in the All Ranks Club! All the WASP's I've talked with said they were not allowed to fraternize with the guys.
All in all, given all the flaws and historical errors, it was a good and entertaining show, and at least helped spread the word of who the WASP's were and what they did.
It was a nice touch, at the end, to put up the information about them finally getting some recognition, being awarded the Congressional Gold Medal.

Not bad. Always good to see some Warbirds get some face time.

B-25 substituted for a "B-26"
P-47 in a still photo of a "Wasp" actor
Stearnan as a "barnstormer"/personally owned plane
P-40, P-51, AT-6 in hangar shot
P-59 in hangar shot
P-38 glimpse
Mig in background
Will the Ownerships be identified??
How was the "underwater" of that 4th FG marked P-51 filmed?

Let's not be too rough on the Hollywood crowd, it was an OK storyline on the WASPs and they used real warbirds and not dressed up Cessnas! All in all, I think they did a better job than what I was expecting! I "Pondered" that underwater shot as well!?!

The Stearman is owned by Tom Friedkin, the remainder are owned by Planes of Fame.

For the record....the two tanks and the ambulance are also based at Planes of Fame

I'd say it was either done by digital magic, or a water wall.

Luckily they discovered the remains of her dress blues in the "bullet compartment." Too bad her friend's "engine stalled" and she was trapped in the airplane because her canopy wouldn't release (how did she get in?). Also, I think the oil and coolant lines on a Mustang are different sizes so I'm not sure how you would cross them- and it would probably take a few hours to do so since they are a bit stubborn going on and off.
Overall I guess the episode was OK and I'm glad they got to use some airplanes (and authentic military vehicles) rather than just CGI. I did like the use of black and white. Don't know that I'll become a regular viewer of the series though.

I think there was a BT-13 in the later scenes too.
I really liked the not-so-top-secret P-59 just sitting in the hangar at New Castle!
